Every morning most men go through the same ritual: shaving. Here are some simple rules for a close and smooth shave

  • Always shave BEFORE breakfast and AFTER a warm shower !
  • Wet your skin with warm water. This simple gesture softens the skin and opens the pores.
  • Use quality shaving materials. Avoid disposable razors and change the blade at a minimum once per week.
  • Apply a pre-shave oil or gel. This important step should not be neglected. It adds a protective layer against the sharpness of the razor blade. Moreover, it prepares your skin by opening the pores and softening the hair.
  • Apply your shaving product (cream, gel, oil…). Avoid products containing synthetic perfumes or dyes and alcohol (which dry and irritate the skin). Avoid foams as well; they do not adhere to the skin. If you like traditional shaving with shaving brushes, massage the shaving cream onto your face and neck with circular movements. Shaving brushes have the advantage to softly scrub your skin.
  • Shave in the direction of your hair (to determine which way it grows, use a magnifying mirror). If your beard is hard, after a first shave apply your shaving product again and shave in the other direction.
  • Rinse your razor regularly with warm water in order to avoid clogging it.
  • In order to avoid irritating your skin do not put too much pressure on it and give it one or two days of rest from shaving in the week.
  • After shaving, rinse your skin with fresh water to firm it and close the pores.
  • Apply a moisturizing and soothing aftershave. It rebuilds the hydrolipidic film (destroyed by shaving). Your skin will be soft and fresh to begin a new day.
  • If you still note the apparition of ingrown hair, scrub your skin once or twice a week the night before shaving. Ingrown hair will disappear and your beard will become softer for your next shaving.

How to take care of your skin

Daily

Step 1: Clean your face

It is no use to apply a cream or a mask if your skin is not clean! Prefer a soap-free, gel or foam, cleansing product . These are gentler for your epidermis which can be irritated by shaving. For an optimal result wet your face with warm water before to open up your pores in order to purify your skin deeply. Apply your product, massage gently and rinse with fresh water. Pat dry your skin.

Step 2: Apply a moisturizer

If you do not moisturize your skin properly after cleansing, exfoliating or shaving, the following can occur: -Your skin dries and becomes itchy -Your becomes greasy and shiny Those effects are normal when the natural hydrolipidic film (mix of water and sebum located at the surface of your skin) is unbalanced. In the first case, this leads to an important evaporation of the water of your dermis: your skin is itchy. In the second case the skin makes more sebum in order to counter this loss of water: your skin becomes shiny. In order to regulate these effects it is important to moisturize your skin after cleansing or shaving to restore the hydrolipidic balance and protect it. If your skin is greasy prefer a moisturizing gel. If you have dry skin prefer a cream.

Step 3: Use an eye contour

Our eyes are subjected to many stressful factors: late evenings hard at work, nights out drinking, lack of sleep, stress, etc. To improve your look, use a skincare specifically dedicated to the eye contour. Applied day and night, an eye contour cream has an effect on dark circles and puffiness, or on wrinkles, or even on both. Choose one that is most adapted to the results you are searching for. Apply it on clean and dry skin massaging gently the eye contour. To smooth wrinkles massage from the inner corner of the eye to the outer corner. To act on dark circles and puffiness massage from the outer corner of the eye to the inner corner.

Once or twice a week

Step 1: Scrub your skin

A srcub is used to detoxify your skin. Black heads and dull skin disappear. Your face is toned. It is recommended to scrub your skin before the application of a facial mask. This will enhance the performance of the mask’s active ingredients. A face scrub can be used the same way as a face cleanser. For coarse beards, scrub your face the night before shaving to remove ingrown hairs and soften your beard. Be careful not to use your scrub more than twice a week.

Step 2: Apply a mask

Masks help bring the active ingredients your skin needs to look and feel healthy. In order to get the most out of your mask, use one that is adapted to your skin type or to the type of benefit you are searching for. Different types of masks exist: moisturizing, anti-ageing, peel-off (scrub effect), calming… Apply your mask on a clean face (see 1st step)! If your skin is dry, use a moisturizing mask. It will boost skin tone and soothe it. On the contrary, if your skin is greasy and shiny, use a clay-based mask to absorb excess sebum. Purifying masks cleanse deeply and absorb impurities and grease at the surface of your skin. In both cases (dry or greasy skin) an energizing mask is your best ally. It invigorates your skin leaving signs of fatigue and stress behind. Apply a thick layer on your face and let rest for 10 minutes. According to the kind of mask you are using, you can remove it either by rinsing, or with a piece of cotton, or like a second skin (peel-off masks). Masks can be used once or twice a week.

For an Athletic Body

Step 1: scrub your body

Your skin feels rough? Use a body scrub . Apply it in the shower, after a workout or in the morning. You will be surprised by the results! It can be used like a shower gel however it contains scrubbing particles to smooth your skin and remove dead cells. Pat dry your skin and admire the result!

Step 2: moisturize your skin

As for your face, the skin on your body dries with repetitive use of hard water and cleansing products. During the winter months, a moisturizer can protect your skin against the cold and the dryness due to indoor heating. During the summer, a moisturizer can protect your skin against the drying effects of air-conditioning and will not increase perspiration. It is up to you to choose to apply a cream (richer texture), a balm or even a gel (lighter texture). Choose products that are free of alcohol, dyes or other compounds that can create irritations (perfume allergies for example).
